Kendenup: a Small Town with a Big History

Kendenup is a small rural town situated in the farming community of the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. It has wonderful views of both the Porongorup Range to the south and the Stirling Range to the north-east.

The history of Kendenup goes right back to soon after May 1831 in which time it has seen the discovery of gold, an expansive apple and small fruit industry and wheat, sheep and multi grains industries.

It has left an interesting collection of historical places to see and is within only a couple of hours easy country driving from a number of landmarks, beautiful beaches and the city of Albany with its great shopping and eating out facilities.

Kendenup is a great place to stay and camp in a quiet country setting for a few days or an extended period as its close proximity to the coast as well as rural landmarks provide a perfect base for venturing out and exploring the countryside. During September through to as late as January the countryside is home to great Australian Wildflowers and a quiet drive around the Stirling and Porongurup Ranges is a destination enjoyed by orchid hunters and bird watchers alike.

Autumn is the best time of the year to visit with the temperatures in as early as mid February to right through to the end of June ranging in the very comfortable night lows of 12 to day warms of 25 which is great for camping. It is similar in October and November but more likely to get the occassional cold day still although the wildflowers are starting to appear at this time.

Eating Out In Kendenup

Kendenup is a fast growing township and with it comes more options for EATING OUT. Within 25 minute drives are also Cranbrook and Mount Barker with more daily options.
